Never Alone

"Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; He won’t leave you." DEUTERONOMY 31:6 THE MESSAGE

At the end of the book of Deuteronomy, the Israelites are in a tough spot. They have escaped from slavery in Egypt, crossed the Red Sea, wandered around the desert for forty years, and have now arrived at the Promised Land, the land that God had granted them to settle. They were worn out by this point, but they had always had Moses to lead them. Moses had been God’s messenger who brought them out of Egypt. He had given them the Ten Commandments and the Law. He had been their trusted leader. And now he was about to die.

The Israelites felt totally and completely alone and abandoned as they watched their leader reach the end of his life. Moses gathered the people together and gave them this direction: “Be strong. Take courage...your God is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you” (Deuteronomy 31:6 MSG). Moses wanted to remind his people that even though he was departing, they weren’t alone. God was with them.

You might be in a season of intense loneliness. Perhaps you feel like there is no one to turn to. Maybe you feel abandoned by people you trusted. Maybe you feel like you’re alone in the desert with no one to lead you home. It’s okay to feel lonely sometimes. But the vital truth here is that you are never alone. Even if you flew to a deserted island with no other people around, you still would not be alone. How? God is with you. If you have given your life to God, then His Holy Spirit dwells within you, which means that wherever you go, whatever you do, God will be right there, ready to answer your call for help and to provide comfort when you need Him most. There have been many times in my life when I’ve begged the Lord to help me, and He has always been there. You’re never alone. You have the God of the universe right there with you today, tomorrow, and always.

Lord, thank You for walking with me when I feel alone. Thank You for being there for each and every one of us. I’m so glad that I never have to feel alone. Amen.
