Crafted by the Potter

"And yet, O Lord, You are our Father. We are the clay, and You are the potter. We all are formed by Your hand." ISAIAH 64:8 NLT

If you’ve never witnessed a master potter at the pottery wheel, you should. Artisans have been spinning clay into art for thousands of years. It takes incredible skill to maintain the steady speed of the wheel while the potter slowly molds the mound of gray clay into something more, something with intention behind it. Then, once the vase is formed, they begin the beautification process, using paints and textures to make the art piece special and unique.

We all started out as globs of clay, and God breathed life into us when we were growing in our mother’s womb. None of us had shape or form until the Lord started to create us just the way we are. God is an artist. Take a look around the world we live in. From majestic mountain ranges to rushing waterfalls to the dunes of the desert, we live in a beautiful place. God put just as much thought and intention into creating you as He did creating this entire planet. Your body is made of up millions of neurons and atoms and cells, all massing together to form your muscles, your organs, your bones. You.

You are a miracle, and God designed you with love in His heart, with a purpose for your life.

Everyone wishes they could change something about themselves. For me, I’ve always disliked my nose and the fact that one of my eyes is slightly smaller than the other. That probably seems silly to you, but I spent countless minutes of my teenage years trying to find ways to hide these small “imperfections.”

We live in a world where perfection is impossible, and yet we still try so hard to mold ourselves into something new and different. God crafted each and every hair on your head, each freckle on your face, the color of your skin, everything. He designed you like the most beautiful piece of pottery in the world. He molded you so carefully into who you are. You are amazing. You are so beautiful. You are such a gift.

God, thank You for creating me with so much care. Thank You for loving me so much. I am so glad that You are my Father, and that I get to be Your creation. Amen.
