Commentators are divided as to the specific application of the parable, so we should look to pull general principles from it instead of trying to unlock a secret meaning. This parable shows that growth can be taking place even if we can't observe it. This reminds us growth is from God, and not from our own efforts. We can't force God's hand, so it's important for us to practice patience and continually put our trust and faith in God and His timing.
