Journey Through Kings & Chronicles Part 1Sample

Intro
Nicole introduces this lesson in which we look more closely now at the foundations of Solomon’s reign to see how predictable his fall really was.
Solomon’s Fall: In the Text
There are two times when Scripture warned Israel about how their kings should behave, if and when they ask for one. Look at how Solomon follows the pattern of what they shouldn’t do.
Solomon’s Reign vs. the King’s Law
When you compare Solomon’s reign with the guidelines given through Moses in Deuteronomy, you can immediately see points of contrast. Note that we have no indication whether Solomon kept a copy of the Torah or read it daily.
Qualifications of David’s Covenant
Solomon’s demise makes sense not only in light of Moses’ ancient prohibitions, but also in warnings given to Solomon’s father David just one generation earlier.
Read Nathan’s Oracle to David (2 Sam 7:1-17). Then answer the following questions:
What is promised to David? (Be specific.)
What will happen if David’s offspring commits iniquity?
What qualification is put on the Lord’s chastisement?
