There’s a wonderful moment in the Lord of the Rings movies where all hope seems lost. The heroes are under siege, and their stronghold is being overrun by the enemy. With defeat in sight, they cling to hope from the words of the wizard Gandalf, “Look to my coming at first light on the fifth day. At dawn, look to the East!”

And just as he promises, Gandalf appears… with a large army behind him to turn the battle and claim the victory.

This is the same message we read in our passage. Psalm 121 offers assurance, hope, and confidence in God.

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord…” (Psalm 121:1-2, NIV). These words don’t dismiss doubt but instead invite us to shift our focus—to look beyond ourselves and toward the God who made heaven and earth.

The Psalm doesn't explain everything. It doesn’t offer that things will be easier, or the questions you have may be answered. What it does promise is that God is watching over you — that He does not slumber, that your foot won't slip, and that you are not alone. Even when belief wavers, God's love and grace for you does not.

When life may feel fragile or uncertain, Psalm 121 reminds us that security lies not in having it all figured out, but in being held by the One who does.

Lift your eyes—not to escape your questions, but to entrust them to the Keeper of your soul.

Today, ponder this: Take time to pray this morning, listing your worries and doubts to God. Spend time praising Him for who He is, His faithfulness, and steadfastness.
