Nearness

DAY 20 OF 62

Steve Irwin was the beloved ‘Crocodile Hunter’. There was rarely a bad word spoken against him. His love for nature and animals overflowed in his enthusiasm that he sought to share with his family and the world. Whilst he was an entertainer, deep down he was passionate and single-minded about nature conservation and animal welfare.

In some ways, Steve Irwin’s passion paints the kind of life that Proverbs tells us about. In Proverbs 20:5-7, a wise person draws out the deep purposes in another’s heart, remains faithful when others are fickle, and leaves a legacy of blessing for their children. These verses speak not to flashy charisma but to faithful character —the kind that listens carefully, speaks gently, and walks with consistency even when no one is watching.

Paul urges us in Philippians 2:15 (ESV) to “shine as lights in the world” by living without grumbling or compromise. Jesus calls His followers in Matthew 5:16 to let their light shine so others might see God. And Galatians 6:9 (ESV) reminds us that if we “do not give up,” we will reap a harvest at the right time.

In a noisy world, the most radical thing might be a life of humble, Spirit-led integrity. What deep purpose might God be calling you to draw out in yourself or someone else today?

Today, ponder this: What does it look like to choose integrity even when no one’s watching? Know that your obedience to Jesus is being strengthened in the quiet choices.

About this Plan

Nearness

In a season shaped by bold questions and honest wrestling, Nearness offers a daily pause to remember that God is not distant—even when answers feel elusive. This companion to the Ask Anything sermon series walks through key selections from Psalms and Proverbs, revealing a God who sees, hears, and loves us without needing to erase the hard places. Each devotion gently speaks into the tension, offering wisdom and comfort. God is unfailingly good. His presence is unwavering. We don’t need every answer—we need the One who stays.
