What Is My Calling?

DAY 10 OF 12

Jesus Christ wants to serve us

“The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:28 ESV)

The Lord Jesus often calls Himself “the Son of Man” — a significant name highlighted in a vision given to the prophet Daniel. He saw “One like a Son of Man” appearing on the clouds of heaven. “To him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him.” (Daniel 7:13-14 ESV) This person is Jesus, the great Son of Man who is at the same time God. He is to be worshiped by all nations, and His kingdom will never end.

Within this context, Jesus’ words are downright shocking: “The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve.” The great Son of the King came to earth to give us sinful people what we need. He did not come to appoint staff, but to bring lost children home to their Father in heaven.

“I am among you as the one who serves,” Jesus also says in Luke 22:27 (ESV). He wants to wash us clean of sin; He shows this in John 13. Will you let Him do so?

Do you allow Jesus to serve you so that you can be united with Him? How does this fit into the picture you have of God and yourself?

About this Plan

What Is My Calling?

Christians often talk about their ‘calling’ as an assignment they have received from God, for example to go into missions. They want to serve the Lord by committing themselves to His Kingdom. Hearing this can make you wonder: What actually is my calling? What does God want me to do? This reading plan gives you answers from the Bible.
