Sharing Your FaithSample

God Will Open the Door for You
When it comes to sharing your faith, do you feel like you are pushing against a locked door?
In today’s world, it sometimes makes me feel like that door is impenetrable. We are pummeled from many directions with information that has nothing to do with faith. Yet, it seems evident that people are searching for life’s answers. If they weren’t, there wouldn’t be so many religions to choose from. I recently discovered that one place to share my faith is somewhere I least expected. My very own church!
This summer, I volunteered for Character Quest (CQ), where more than 400 fourth and fifth-graders gathered for an entire week at our church. They went on ziplines, learned archery, and threw water balloons at each other, to mention only a few of the many activities. Laughter permeated the campus. There were many opportunities to share with the children, as a counselor, a mentor, or just handing out a cupcake at break time.
The kids also gathered for a quiet time where they were taught who they are in Christ and how accepting Him as Savior changes their lives. For some, it was the first time they heard the message. By the end of camp, several children asked Jesus into their lives, and a new generation of Christ-followers was birthed.
There is a wide-open door for a great work here, although many opposed me.
1 Corinthians 16:9 NLT
Paul was writing a letter to the Corinthians in the above passage. He was saying that even when there’s opposition, the door is wide open for a great work. If God opened a door for Paul, He will do it for you as well.
Can you think of ways to impact the younger generation with the Gospel? Did you have an encounter with Him when you were young? If so, ask the Lord who you can share your story with. Be open about your joys, your struggles, and how the Lord helped you when you wandered. There are many ways to share your story. Ask the Lord to open doors of opportunity, and He will! (Revelation 3:7 & 1 Timothy 7 and 8)
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the Good News of Jesus Christ, Your Son. Fill me anew with the power and presence of Your Holy Spirit. Open doors of opportunity to share my faith journey, especially with the younger generation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Do you want to go the extra mile?
- Search for a place to volunteer, whether at church or at an organization in the area where you live.
- Pray and ask the Lord to open doors for you to share your faith journey. Expect to find opportunities throughout the day. The Holy Spirit will give you a gentle nudge when the opportunity comes. He doesn’t pressure. He gently nudges.
- Keep a journal of your encounters. This can be a great source of encouragement on days when you feel like you miss the mark.
