Breaking the Chains of Fear

In the realm of spiritual warfare, one of the most insidious weapons the Enemy employs is the spirit of fear. Satan uses this strategic tool to cripple, paralyze, and distort the purpose that God has ordained for his children.

At the core of Satan’s strategy is the corruption of God’s promises. Fear wants to convince you that God is a liar and cannot be trusted. We can either choose to believe this lie or believe God’s promises of adoption and overwhelming love.

Second Timothy 1:7 reminds us not only that fear does not originate from God but that he also has better plans to pour out his love and power and give us a sound mind.

The spirit of fear also turns our focus inward, overwhelming us with worry about what people will think about us. When I started working in the Christian music industry, I was overwhelmed with doubt about my self-worth. Rather than building my life on the solid rock of Christ’s view of me, I was building it on the shifting sands of the world’s expectations.

The truth was that I believed I was not good enough. No matter what I did, the spirit of perfectionism nearly suffocated me. I knew that if I continued in this belief, it would derail me from fulfilling my purpose. I had to deal with the roots of my belief system, call out the lies, ask God for deliverance, and accept the gift of freedom he offered.

The great news is that fear loses its grip when we truly believe that God is our ultimate provider and sustainer. Living in the assurance of God’s provision and promise allows believers to pursue their purpose confidently. Why should I live like a slave when I am an heir to the King of kings? I don’t want to leave a single gift on the table. I receive it all in the powerful name of Jesus! If freedom is mine, then, indeed, I shall have it.

Heavenly Father, I thank you for unveiling Satan’s tool of fear and fortifying my heart in your promises. I refuse the spirit of fear that works to distort your promises, paralyze me with anxiety, and create doubt in your goodness. Today, I choose to believe you, Lord. Amen.

Today I will confidently protect the sound mind that God has graciously given me by believing every word he says.
