Nurturing Your Desire for More in a Healthy WaySample

Be Content with What You Have
In 1 Timothy 6:6-7 (NKJV), the scripture says,
[6] "Now godliness with contentment is great gain. [7] For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out."
This was Paul's advice to young Timothy. He was speaking from a fatherly perspective to Timothy because, by the time he wrote this epistle, he (Paul) was of an advanced age. That's why he wrote things like, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7).
Now, if Paul, who did many wonderful things in Christ, is saying that godliness with contentment is great gain, it means that living content with what you have is one of the most treasurous things in a believer's walk with God. When you are content, you don't have any problem with greed or materialism. You also enjoy God's peace because you are not subject to the pressures of the world to acquire things, as many people work each day to obtain them.
Learn this lesson. You can have a desire for more. But when you are content with what God has given you, you'll relax and wait patiently for the Lord to make way to get those things. Do not fret about life, because when God is with you, He will make all things beautiful in their own time (see Ecclesiastes 3:11).
