His Name, Our Witness
How does your life reflect the name of the One you follow?
When Jesus teaches us to pray, “hallowed be your name,” it’s not only about what we say to God, it’s about how we live before others. In ancient Jewish culture, a name represented far more than a label; it was bound to identity, reputation, and character. To “hallow” God's name is to live in a way that honours who he is.
In Ezekiel 36:23 (NIV), God declares, “I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord.” This reminds us that our worship isn’t private, it’s public. The way we live, forgive, serve, and speak either reflects God's holiness or clouds it.
In the early church, believers were known for how they lived differently.Their prayers were powerful declarations of allegiance to a holy God, whose name they carried into every space. And this hasn’t changed. In Matthew 5:16 (NIV), Jesus says, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
To hallow God's name means choosing to live in step with what we pray. When we speak words of honour but live lives of compromise, we profane the name we’re called by. But when our lives align with our prayers, we become a witness to a watching world.
Prayer:
God, I don’t want to speak your name casually or carry it carelessly. Help me to honour you not only with my words, but with my life. Teach me to live in a way that reflects your holiness and draws others to your goodness.

About this Plan

Over the next 21 days, we’re going on a journey through the words Jesus taught us to pray in Matthew 6. The Lord’s Prayer is an invitation to be changed from the inside out. As we fast and pray together, each daily devotional will help us draw closer to God, grow in identity, realign with his kingdom, trust him for provision, and walk in wholeness.
