Psalm 101 - Curating Our AttentionSample

Psalm 101 - Curating Our Attention

DAY 3 OF 5

Day 3: The Visual Diet

"I will not look with approval on anything that is vile. I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it." (Psalm 101:3, NIV)

What we look at shapes who we become. In David's day, this meant being careful about what entertainment he welcomed into his court. In our day, it means being intentional about our media consumption.

The word "vile" here means worthless or destructive. David's being protective of his mind and character. He understands that repeatedly focusing on worthless things makes us worthless. Consistently consuming destructive content makes us destructive.

You wouldn't put garbage in your body and expect to feel healthy. The same logic applies to your mind.

TODAY: Before consuming any entertainment today, ask yourself: "Is this building me up or tearing me down?"

GO DEEPER: Do an honest audit of your media consumption. What shows, websites, or social media accounts consistently leave you feeling worse about yourself or others?

PRAYER: God, help me to be as careful about what I feed my mind as I am about what I feed my body. Guard my eyes from images that would pollute my heart. Give me wisdom to choose influences that draw me closer to you. Amen.
