Just Like Dad - God's Attributes in UsSample

The last characteristic of God as our Father is honour. Honouring God means recognizing His authority, affection, and relationship in our lives and responding with a wholehearted yes:

We honour His authority by trusting His plans.

We honour His affection by receiving His love.

We honour His relationship by drawing close to Him.

Even if God were only one of these things - an imperfect Father - He would still deserve our honour. But He’s not. He is perfect in authority, affection, and relationship.

ARE WE PERFECT CHILDREN?

While God is a perfect Father, we often fall short as His children. Maybe you’ve acted out to get attention or pushed boundaries with your parents. We sometimes do the same with God:

We question His authority.

We doubt His love.

We neglect our relationship with Him.

But there’s no good reason to treat our Heavenly Father this way. He is perfect in every way. Even when our view of Him is skewed by our own hurts, mistakes, or misunderstandings, God’s response is not like that of an earthly parent.

HIS RESPONSE IS MERCY AND GRACE

God’s affection for us doesn’t change. He shows mercy and grace because He is the Father.

Even when we mess up, God’s response is mercy. His grace overflows, and His love never fails.

HOW YOU VIEW GOD AND YOURSELF

How you view God comes back to how you view yourself. Will you let Him be your Father? Will you let Him:

Forgive you?

Love you?

Lead you?

It’s like when we were kids, packing a bag and threatening to move out after a tantrum. We wanted independence, but deep down, we didn’t want to leave. God is waiting for us to return to Him, arms open, ready to give us everything we truly need:

The love you need.

The authority you crave.

The relationship you long for.

LET GOD BE DAD

Stop trying to be independent. Stop trying to carry the weight of your life alone. Come back to the Father.

Christ redeemed us.

The Spirit changes us.

The Father created us.

He holds the world—and you—in His hands.

Let God be your Father. Trust His authority, rest in His love, and draw close to Him. Say yes to the perfect Father today.
