Just Like Dad - God's Attributes in Us

DAY 2 OF 3

God’s nature is unified and perfect, expressed through His roles as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. While Jesus redeems us and the Holy Spirit transforms us, God the Father created us and holds ultimate authority. Yet, He’s not just a distant figure; He loves us deeply and desires an active relationship with us. Let’s explore how God’s authority, affection, and relationship shape our understanding of Him as the perfect Father.

1. GOD’S AUTHORITY

God is the Creator of everything, which gives Him ultimate authority over our lives. This authority is not harsh or oppressive; it’s life-giving and filled with purpose.

Even Jesus, though fully God, submitted to the Father’s authority. In the Garden of Gethsemane, as He faced the cross, He prayed: "Not my will, but yours be done."

God’s authority empowers us. He’s the source of our strength and purpose. Through Jesus’ sacrifice and the Holy Spirit’s power, we share in this authority to live boldly for Him.

However, if we only view God as a figure of authority, we might see Him as a distant dictator. That’s why His authority is perfectly balanced by His affection.

2. GOD’S AFFECTION

God’s love for us is personal, constant, and unchanging. When He created humanity, He called it "very good". His love for Jesus is the same love He has for us.

Jesus often told parables to show the Father’s heart for His children, like the story of the Prodigal Son.

Even when we walk away or make mistakes, God’s affection remains. He isn’t indifferent to our struggles. Like the father in the Prodigal Son story, He’s always ready to welcome us back with open arms.

3. GOD’S RELATIONSHIP WITH US

God doesn’t just want us to obey Him; He wants a deep, personal relationship with us. His love isn’t just about affection - it’s about investment. Like a Dad cheering for his child at a sports game, God is actively involved in our lives and celebrates our victories.

You’re not a slave in God’s kingdom; you’re His child. You’re part of His family, an heir to His promises, and a royal priesthood.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR US?

How you see God impacts how you live. If you see Him as only authoritative, you might feel burdened. If you see Him as distant, you might feel unloved. But when you see Him as a Father who holds authority, shows affection, and desires a relationship, it changes everything.

Take time today to reflect:

Do you trust His authority?

Do you rest in His affection?

Do you pursue His relationship?

Let God’s authority guide you. Let His affection heal you. Let His relationship restore you. Let Him be the perfect Father in your life today.
