The Thief of EverythingSample

How often do you get distracted while trying to finish something? While some of us have the unique ability to stay laser-focused on what’s in front of us, most of us struggle with the unavoidable fate of distraction from time to time. One such distraction you may not even realize that is fighting for your attention? Comparison! It’s like the pop-up ad constantly showing up on the main page of our brains before we can even see it coming. One second you’re moving through life feeling great about who you are, and the next, comparison pops up out of nowhere to distract you by telling you that who you are just isn’t enough. The longer that distraction remains, the less likely we are to be able to do what God has called us to do uniquely.
When we let comparison take our attention from what’s in front of us—the unique plan and purpose God has given us—we’re losing more than we may even realize. But when we choose to shift our focus away from the comparison that distracts us and onto the good purpose God has given us, then we’ll find ourselves walking forward daily on the path set before us by God. Today, talk to your spouse, a trusted friend, or someone in your Small Group about how you can hold each other accountable to resisting the urge to be distracted by comparison. How can you encourage each other to work well at what God has uniquely called you to in life?

About this Plan

It’s easy to get caught up in comparison. We compare our thoughts, words, actions, relationships, and even our faith. Chances are, if we’re honest, we’d admit that comparison makes us feel a lot worse. It has the potential to steal our joy, self-image, peace, success, and faith. That’s because comparison is a thief. As we’ll see in this series, we’ll look at the secret to breaking the cycle of comparison.
