God, Are You Testing Me?Sample

God, Are You Testing Me?

DAY 1 OF 5

Have you ever prayed the line from the Lord’s Prayer, “Lead us not into temptation,” and quietly wondered, “Wait... would God ever do that? Tempt me?” You're not alone. This verse has stirred confusion among many, especially when we’re walking through something painful or deeply challenging.

James 1:13 clears up a critical misunderstanding: God does not tempt us. He is holy, loving, and just—and His intention is never to lead us into sin, destruction, or failure. So then, what does Jesus mean when He tells us to pray, “lead us not into temptation?”

The original Greek word used here (for temptation) is peirasmos, which can mean testing or trial, and its less common use is temptation. That multiple meaning opens the door for deeper understanding. God may allow us to walk through a test, just like a teacher tests a student. Not so we fail, but to reveal what’s been planted in us.

He’s not trying to trick us into sin. He’s calling us to trust Him through the test because He's given us all that's needed to succeed.

Maybe you’re in a trial right now and wondering if God led you into it…or if He’s even still with you. Take heart! He’s not absent, and He’s not punishing you. He’s present, and He’s faithful. The test isn’t meant to break you but to strengthen what’s already growing inside of you.

Jesus Himself was tested. Not to reveal His weakness, but to prove His identity. The same is true for you.

Reflection

Have you ever confused a test with a temptation? How does knowing the difference change your perspective on your current season?
