Restoring Eden: How to Grow Spiritually Without Growing WearySample

Staying Rooted Through Every Season
Jeremiah 17:5–8 gives us a beautiful picture of two kinds of people: one who trusts in human strength and one who trusts in God. The first is like a dried-up shrub in the desert—alone and withering. The second is like a tree planted by water—steady, flourishing, and fruitful, even when drought comes.
The difference? Trust.
When we trust in ourselves or others, life feels fragile and full of anxiety. However, when we stay rooted in God and trust Him even when storms come or seasons feel slow, we begin to grow deep spiritual roots that will hold us steady no matter what.
Here’s something incredible about trees: when a storm comes, the winds and rain don’t just test the tree—they strengthen it. Trees that remain planted during storms actually deepen their root systems in response to the pressure. Those deeper roots prepare the tree to withstand future storms even more firmly. What feels like adversity is actually building greater resilience.
Our trust in God works the same way. Strong faith isn't built when everything is going as planned. It's built when we choose to trust God no matter what. Storms will come. Dry seasons will come, but when you choose to remain rooted in God’s love, His Word, and His presence, your roots grow deeper. You become stronger and over time, your life begins to bear fruit that lasts.
Today, trust God to be your steady Source through every storm and every season.
Reflection: Where are you tempted to uproot or take control? How can you trust God more deeply and stay rooted in Him today?

About this Plan

Too often, we strive for perfection, try to hold everything together, and still feel like we’re falling short. Deep down, it’s because we long for what was lost in the Garden of Eden—a life of peace, purpose, and closeness with God. The good news is: God, the Master Gardener, has always had a plan to bring us back. In Restoring Eden, Bible teacher Christina Patterson shows how to grow a flourishing life in Christ—by God’s grace, not your striving.
