The Gospel of JohnSample

From Shame to Significance
In John 4:27–54, we witness two life-changing encounters with Jesus. First, the Samaritan woman, previously burdened by shame, becomes one of the Bible’s most unlikely evangelists. She runs into her village proclaiming, “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” (John 4:29). Her testimony leads many to believe in Jesus—not because she had everything together, but because she had encountered the Savior.
Then, a royal official desperately pleads for Jesus to heal his dying son. Jesus tells him, “Go; your son will live” (John 4:50), and the man believes. His faith is rewarded, and his entire household comes to faith.
These stories show us that Jesus is not just a Savior for the religious elite or the morally upright. He is the Savior of the world—for Jew and Gentile, rich and poor, ashamed and broken.
Before I met Jesus, I didn’t have much to boast about. I carried regret, insecurity, and a sense of unworthiness. But after accepting Christ, everything changed. My story became part of His story. I no longer take pride in who I was or what I’ve done. Now, I boast in what Jesus has done in me and for me. Like the woman at the well, I may not have started with much, but I now have a message worth sharing.
You may not feel proud of where you’ve come from or who you are today. But in Christ, your past is not your identity. He gives you new purpose, new hope, and a new reason to speak boldly. Jesus invites you not only to believe—but to share.
Respond to God’s Word
- Invite someone to church – Like the woman at the well, your invitation might be the first step in someone else’s journey to Jesus.
- Share your testimony – Don’t wait until your story feels perfect. Tell others what Christ has done for you.
- Reflect on your identity in Christ – Spend time today thanking God that your worth is found in Him, not in your past or performance.
Jesus didn’t come to make bad people good. He came to bring dead people to life. And because He lives, you can walk in confidence today.
