Find & Follow Jesus, Quarter 3Sample

Devotional:
“Do not say, ‘Why were the old days better than these?’ For it is not wise to ask such questions.” Ecclesiastes 7:10 (NIV)
It’s tempting to idealize the past—especially when life feels uncertain or difficult. We often look back with longing, convinced that “the good old days” were better. But Ecclesiastes 7:10 reminds us that dwelling on the past in this way isn’t wise.
Why? Because looking backward can blind us to what God is doing now. Nostalgia isn’t always rooted in truth—it can distort reality, making us forget the challenges that existed then and ignore the grace available today.
God is not stuck in the past. He is always present, always working, and always leading us forward. When we long too much for what was, we risk missing what is and what can be through Him. Instead of asking, “Why were the old days better?” ask, “Lord, what are You doing in my life today? What new things are You growing in me through this season?” Every day holds potential for growth, grace, and purpose—because God is in it.
God has not changed, and His faithfulness continues now just as it did then. And He invites you to partner with him today for the sake of tomorrow.
Prayer:
Are you stuck in the past or wishing for what used to be? Ask God to help you see the beauty and purpose in today. Ask Him for wisdom for today and His perspective for tomorrow.
About this Plan

Follow our quarterly plans to read through the entire Bible in one year, plus a bonus round through the Gospels and Romans. Each day, we encourage you to read the sections from both the Old Testament and the New Testament, and then set aside some time to write down, journal, or memorize the first posted verse from each day. Every week we provide an additional devotional for further discussion on that week's themes.
