Greatness: Matthew 14-20Sample

Greatness: Matthew 14-20

DAY 51 OF 64

“What do you want me to do for you?” (Matthew 20:32, ESV)

This simple yet profound question is one Jesus asked on more than one occasion, and it’s a question He continues to ask us today.

Jesus never asked this question because He lacked understanding. He knew exactly what each person needed and longed for. He saw beneath the surface—past the physical symptoms, the social status, the reputation, the rehearsed answers. He knew. And still, He asked.

Why?

Jesus knew that naming our desires before God—our real desires, not the ones we think we should have—is in itself an act of trust. It is an invitation to a deeper relationship with God as our Father.

Lately, something beautiful has been happening in our Sunday services at City on a Hill Melbourne: young children have started coming forward for prayer.

One Sunday, a 10-year-old boy asked me to pray for Gospel opportunities with his primary school friends. The following week, he came back, eyes bright and full of joy, to thank God for answering his prayers. That same evening, we prayed with a six-year-old girl, too.

There’s something raw and unfiltered about a child’s faith. They’re not performing. They’re not editing their requests. They ask freely because they trust they’ll be heard.

Isn’t that the posture we’re all invited into?

Today, ponder this: Sit in silence for a few minutes. Hear Jesus’ words now directed to you: “What do you want me to do for you?” Speak out or write down your honest answer. Don’t edit. Just let it come. Share honestly with your Heavenly Father.
