Immersed: Out of the Shallows Into the DeepSample

Maybe God is calling you out of the shallows and into the depths.

There is much more to discover in the deep, but we will never experience it unless we break the surface level of our faith.

When Peter walked on water, the boat was in the middle of the lake, too deep for him to touch. Little faith is required in ankle-deep waters. It’s in those deep waters that we learn to trust God and experience Him like never before. Where we let go of our control and reach out to find God's hand. Where the waters become so deep and dark that we can no longer see with our human eyes and learn to fully rely on our faith in Him.

It's not about being a perfect Christian, with no suffering and always calm waters. It’s quite the opposite.

We WILL have troubles, but the more immersed we become in Jesus, the more we can view those struggles through an eternal lens. We can allow God to use them for His glory instead of questioning, "Why is this happening to me?" We can live with the unfailing hope and peace that surpasses all understanding and supernatural strength that only comes from God to face those hardships.

Being immersed in our faith journey is a continual process of going deeper with God. It can be scary and painful and hard and lonely at times, but as He reminds us in Isaiah 43:2, He is with us. This is a verse that I have clung to many times in my life, especially during my son’s cancer. And it is one of many of God's promises I know to be true.

I’m not sure where you are on your faith journey today; maybe you are just starting out, or maybe you have been walking with God your whole life, but you feel like there is still more for you, and you are tired of being in the shallows, and you are ready to go deeper. Ask God to reveal Himself to you in a new and fresh way. Ask Him to give you direction and a desire to become fully IMMERSED in Him.
