Immersed: Out of the Shallows Into the DeepSample

The second most important action is STUDYING GOD'S WORD.

This is where the shift started for me. I decided that I wanted to make studying God's Word a priority in my life. Being a busy mom, this meant getting up earlier.

I’ve never really been one to sleep in, but let me tell you, once I determined this was going to be my time with the Lord, it suddenly became a little harder for my feet to hit the floor! I persevered and now I hold that time so sacred. Reading scripture sets the tone for my day and His Word always has something that speaks to my situation.

While many books have been written over the ages, none have stood the test of time like the Bible. No other book ever published could have the same influence or life-altering power as the unchanging, infallible, faithful Word of God.

And the more immersed in the gospel we are, the more we come to know God through His Word. The more we will know His character and who we are in Him and how He calls us to live and love others. The more equipped we will be to fight spiritual battles.

Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:17 how to prepare for spiritual warfare by putting on the helmet of salvation and taking up the Sword of the Spirit. God’s Word is the very thing we are armed with to fight the enemy. And when we can’t see our way out of the darkest nights, Psalm 119:105 tells us that His Word lights our way.

We talked about journaling our prayers, and I think it’s equally as important and helpful to journal through our Bible as well. For me, I find that I soak in what I am reading and it sticks if I write down what God is speaking to me through His Word.

There is no right or wrong way to pray or study. What works for me might not work for you. My heart is to encourage you to dig into the Word of God daily. Even if it’s just reading one verse a day!

The word of God helps to sustain us. When we pray and ask Him to reveal Himself to us through His Word, just as Jeremiah 29:13 promises us, when we seek Him, we will find Him!
