Samuel from birth had been dedicated to God, spent his life in the Temple. He grew up in the dwelling place of God and was brought up and trained by priests. The priests were God’s representatives, but Samuel didn’t yet recognise the voice of God.
In order to hear from God, Samuel had to position himself correctly, which involved making himself available to God. Not rushing off on what he thought he should be doing, or with “busy work”, but available for God to speak in the way God desired.
God still desires to speak to you today, and the chief way is through His Word. By making ourselves available to Him and intentionally praying that He reveal what He’s trying to say to us as we open up the Bible, the word will come to life for you like it hasn’t before!
Prayer:
Lord God, we want to hear your voice. Speak to us as we wait on you, we your servants are listening! Amen.
