Made to Be

DAY 2 OF 28

Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!

S: Scripture

If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture. Then summarize it in your own words.

O: Observation

Read John 1:1–9 again.

  • What does it tell us about how Jesus makes himself known to us?
  • What does it teach about what it looks like to know God?
  • What obstacles can we see in the passage?

A: Application

What would it look like for us to receive the true light that is being given to everyone? Why is it difficult for us to receive that light?

What's one way you feel darkness is keeping you from knowing God better?

What's a step you can take to pursue God's light in your life?

How might your perspective change by recognizing God's light has been with you since the beginning?

P: Prayer

Spend some time in prayer about a way you feel kept in darkness today. Talk to God about what holds you back from knowing God and feeling known in return. Then say thank you for God's light being available to us without limits.

About this Plan

Made to Be

We’ve all wondered who we are, what makes us unique, and how we’re supposed to make a difference in the world. It may not feel like a big deal, but how you spend your free time says a lot about who you are and what you care most about. It’s easy to feel like our interests and talents are just random, but the truth is that God created each of us with a purpose to do amazing things. For the next 28 days, we’ll see how the hobbies and interests you love might be exactly how God works through you.
