Hosting God’s Presence in Your Marriage – a 10-Day Devotional Guide

DAY 5 OF 10

Day 5: Are You Walking with God Intimately?

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”— John 10:27 (NKJV)

Your spiritual life is not just a personal matter; it’s the foundation of your ability to yield to the Holy Spirit, receive divine wisdom, and discern what’s happening in your marriage.

Hosting God’s presence starts with spending time with Him. The more time you spend with God, the clearer His voice becomes. But cultivating intimacy with Him will remain a challenge if you only offer Him 10 rushed minutes before bed.

Let’s be honest: today's fast-paced world demands intentionality. If you prioritise social media, work, or entertainment but neglect your time with God, your spiritual life will wither. You may feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or spiritually dry—not because God is far, but because you’ve stopped drawing near.

Even with a packed schedule, you can still create meaningful space for God:

•Wake up a little earlier to spend time in prayer and worship.

•Use your transit time to listen to sermons or worship music.

•Take short breaks during the day to meditate on Scripture.

•Maximize weekends by setting aside longer quiet time for prayer and study.

•Go on retreats when possible for deeper communion with God.

Even in a busy season, you can still actively host God’s presence by weaving spiritual activities into your daily life.

One of the most important aspects of walking with God is learning to hear His voice. Ask yourself:

•Are my prayers focused solely on what God can do for me?

•Or am I seeking Him to know Him truly?

If your prayers are a one-way street of requests, intimacy with God will be hard to build. He wants to reveal things about your marriage, spouse, and struggles…But He requires that you align with His will.

Practical Ways to Grow Spiritually

1. Ask God questions during your prayer time. Journal what He reveals to you.

2 . Read His Word daily. His voice becomes clearer when you immerse yourself in Scripture.

3 .Set alarms as reminders to pray throughout the day.

4. Find accountability partners to encourage your spiritual growth.

5. Start small and remain consistent—God honors your efforts.

As you make room for God, your ears will become more tuned to His whispers. And when He speaks, recognize and appreciate His voice.

When you allow the Lord to give you direction, comfort, and wisdom that flows from His presence, your decisions in your marriage will no longer be influenced by the flesh but by the Spirit. The Bible says, 'And those who are led by the spirit of God are the sons of God.'

It is not nagging, constant complaints, grumbling, control, suspicions, and manipulations that will make your marriage work. Real change in your home comes from a heart that's yielded to the Holy Spirit. Your noble patience, gentle strength, and spiritual maturity are the tools God uses to heal and restore.

Let's get practical today:

Write down one or two issues currently troubling you in your marriage. Then find scriptures that speak to those issues. Meditate on them. Pray with them. Let the Word renew your mind and align your heart with God's.

Scriptures for Reflection:

•John 10:27

•John 15:4-5

• Ephesians 3:18-19
