The ministry of life

One of the most beautiful things about a life surrendered to Jesus is that He invites us to be part of His beautiful redemption story for humanity. Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He told the disciples to go into the world and make disciples of the nations (Matthew 28:19-20). And He invites us to do the same today.

Sometimes we over-complicate ministry and relegate it to those in professional ministry positions, such as pastors or preachers. But whilst God does provide specific spiritual gifts to some (Ephesians 4:11-13), we are all called to make disciples of the nations. And this looks different for everyone.

Loving others and pointing them to Jesus is a ministry we can all actively participate in every day. For some of us, it will be by opening our homes to people and showing them care and hospitality. For others, it could be an offer to pray for them. It could be helping a new parent by cooking meals for them or mowing the lawn of your elderly neighbour. We all have an important part to play, and our responsibility is to take what God has placed in our hands and use it to minister to those around us. Then trust God with the rest. Because it is God who moves in the hearts of men and women and reveals Himself to them. It is God who brings people to Himself. We are just the vessel He uses to show His love and care.

God invites all of us to know Him and to make Him known. To minister to those around us by being His hands and feet and making Him known. And what a privilege that is for us.
