DAY 4 OF 7

Mary and Martha send for Jesus. Their brother is unwell for days. Jesus is known for his healing miracles. If anyone can avert death, it is he. When Lazarus dies, Jesus is not there. The sisters are filled with helplessness and grief. If only he had come in time. Wrapped in cloths, they lay their brother in the burial cave. They roll a heavy stone in front of the entrance. It becomes dark inside.

Four days pass before Jesus appears. Lazarus's body is already decomposing. What the two sisters don't know yet: Jesus also has power over death. First, he has the stone rolled away. Then he calls Lazarus back to life. Dead cells come back to life at this moment. His heart begins to beat. Spirit fills the lifeless body. Everyone witnesses how a mummy leaves the tomb on two legs. Lazarus is alive!

What in your life died a long time ago? Where do you have the impression that Jesus came too late? Maybe it's a friendship or the relationship with your parents. Maybe it's a dream, a failed degree, or a missing promotion. Maybe your spiritual life has died because sin and guilt have infected you like a deadly virus. You have buried it deep inside you. Wrapped up in despair and resignation.

Jesus is standing in front of your grave today. He knows your reality. He calls you by name. Come out! The buried dream, the broken relationship, the dead faith. Let everything that has died in you hear it: Get up and come back to life! He does it for you so that you may recognize that all power has been given to him.

“I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.” - Ezekiel 37, 4-6
