Swallowed by mercy
Read also Jonah 2:9-10.
At first glance, Jonah being swallowed by a great fish seems like punishment. But in reality, it was his salvation. Without it, he would have drowned. What Jonah initially saw as a prison was actually God’s provision.
Sometimes, God allows us to be in difficult situations to get our attention. It was in the belly of the fish – cut off from all distractions – that Jonah finally found his voice to pray and truly repent. He recognised that salvation belongs to the Lord alone.
How often do we wait until we’re at rock bottom to turn back to God? The good news is that even in our lowest moments, God hears us. When life feels dark and hopeless, remember: God is still at work. The very trial you’re in could be the preparation for something greater.
Prayer: Lord, when I don’t understand Your ways, help me trust in Your mercy. Thank You for rescuing me even when I don’t deserve it. Amen.

About this Plan

“Jonah’s story begins with a divine assignment – God calls him to Nineveh to preach repentance. But instead of obeying, Jonah runs.” (Running From God – Heidi Wysman). Is God calling you to do something scary? Maybe you’re feeling uncertain or unqualified? Be encouraged as you read about Jonah’s story and the faithfulness of God.
