Love Your Neighbor

DAY 6 OF 7

Becoming a Person of Love

In Luke 10:29, an expert in the law asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus replied with the Parable of the Good Samaritan. You might be familiar with the story. It began with a Jewish man who was beaten and robbed. The first two individuals who passed by on the road didn’t help him. The third man, a Samaritan, bandaged his wounds and cared for him. Jesus concluded the story by asking the expert in the law which of the individuals was a neighbor to the man. In other words, the question isn't, “Who is your neighbor?” but rather, “Who are you?”

Are you a loving person?

In Atomic Habits, James Clear explains that lasting change happens when we shift our focus from outcome-based habits (“I want my neighbor to come to Christ”) to identity-based habits (“I am a loving person”).

When you align with your identity as a person of love, your habits will naturally follow. This shows up not only in big, dramatic gestures but also in small, daily choices. In habits of prayer, accountability, kind gestures, and other practical rhythms, your identity is being shaped.

You won’t just try to be loving—you’ll become a person of love. When loving your neighbor becomes part of who you are, it transforms the way you live every single day.

Do you know someone who seems to live as a person of love? What does that look like in their life?

At the end of today, reflect on moments when you showed love or had the opportunity to and didn’t. What did it feel like? Would you do anything differently?

Jesus, I want to be a person of love and a neighbor to all I meet. Help me not to pass others by. Give me the boldness and courage to become more like the person you’ve called me to be. Amen.
