The Pursuing Passion of Our Risen Lord

DAY 6 OF 6

God Pursuing Us In Our Weakness

We've been seeing how Jesus has been pursuing us amidst our backsliding, and amidst our guilt, doubts, unforgiveness and fears. Today, we're going to see how Jesus pursues us to do his mission amidst our weaknesses. Now when we look at Matthew 28:16-20, the word of God says this, ‘then the 11 disciples went to Galilee to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. And when they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always to the very end of the age.”’

This was the time for Jesus to ascend and so he commissions his disciples. When they went to Galilee, they worshipped him. But interestingly Matthew while recording also adds on to say, “but some doubted him.” And it is this group of weak disciples, who still doubted, that God was willing to use for his mission.

Isn't that very contradicting to what we often think? We often think that we need to be fully available for him to use us. But in spite of their weakness, in spite of their doubts and uncertainty, Jesus says that all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to them and to us. In other words, he is sending them by the authority that He has and not by the authority they have. They go out and make disciples by the authority that is in Jesus. So, through Jesus' authority, we are all made perfect in our weaknesses.

And so, my dear friends, he pursues us in spite of our weaknesses to do his mission. If any of us feels that we are not good enough or are not all that we should be, then yes, that feeling of discontent is good, in order for us to pursue further in our spiritual walk, and it is not to condemn us.

Here, in spite of what we are, Jesus pursues us to fulfil his mission through ordinary people like you and me. Are we willing to do the work he has called us to do because he is a God who pursues us amidst our weakness? When we yield to him, he will use us for his glory.

Prayer

Thank you, Lord, for pursuing me despite my weaknesses and assuring me that you will never leave me. Thank you for choosing me to go out and serve with courage in your name and authority. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Day 5

The Pursuing Passion of Our Risen Lord

Year after year during Passion Week, we remember the gift of salvation offered to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. But what happens after He is risen? Does the Passion of Christ end? This 6 Day reading and video plan reveals how Jesus continued to pursue his disciples after He rose from the dead, and still persists to pursue us, the body of Christ, today.
