The Pursuing Passion of Our Risen LordSample

The Pursuing Passion of Our Risen Lord

DAY 3 OF 6

God Pursuing Us In Our Doubt

We saw how Jesus pursued his disciples in their fear. He also pursued them to forgive. And we will now look at how Jesus pursued them in their doubts. Now we know that Thomas, also called Didymus, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus, was not present during the first appearance of Jesus. Thomas, afterwards in John 20:25, very clearly told his friends, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hand and put my finger where the nails were and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it.”

Interesting, isn't it? Three and a half years of ministry with Jesus. He has seen Jesus raise people up from the dead. He has seen Lazarus coming out after four days in the tomb. And now his friends would have probably told him that Jesus appeared while he was away. But he refuses to believe it. Now this looks quite hard, doesn’t it? But Jesus was pursuing even Thomas, the doubter. And this is the God whom we serve. He pursues us even in our doubts, however strong that doubt is or deep those questions are. He is willing to come and clear those doubts if they are genuine. Jesus had chosen this Thomas, the doubter, and knew he would go the farthest distance with the gospel. This Thomas who was doubting him then was going to become a great witness for him. And so, he pursued after him in his doubts. He pursued after him, came and appeared again to Thomas and showed himself saying, “Thomas, ‘Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.’” And to that Thomas responds in John 20:28, “My Lord and my God”. Jesus was able to answer his doubts. So, he acknowledged this God as his Lord and God again.

Yes, maybe there are times we go through some confusion and doubts in our spiritual walk, and we wonder whether all these things that we have believed are true because of some situation, some circumstance, or some unanswered prayer that has come our way. You may be going through doubts in your mind right now.

I want to encourage you through this word that you have a God who pursues you in your doubt. So, if you are doubting the Lord for whichever reason, I want to encourage you to trust in him and to seek him and ask him to give you an answer and he will come forth to be the answer to your doubts because he is the God who pursues even when we doubt him.

Prayer

Thank you, Lord Jesus, that you pursue me despite my doubts and help me not only to overcome them but teach me to grow stronger in faith and trust in you. In Jesus name, Amen.

About this Plan

The Pursuing Passion of Our Risen Lord

Year after year during Passion Week, we remember the gift of salvation offered to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. But what happens after He is risen? Does the Passion of Christ end? This 6 Day reading and video plan reveals how Jesus continued to pursue his disciples after He rose from the dead, and still persists to pursue us, the body of Christ, today.
