Stepping Into Your Wild

DAY 1 OF 3

Day 1: Beginnings
Trusting God with small beginnings

Chapter Summary
Let It Be Wild, Chapter 1 - Beginnings

Looking back, I realize my passion for creating and making an impact started earlier than I ever gave myself credit for. I was ten years old, sitting at a sewing machine with my Momo, learning how to make t-shirt pillows for a school business fair. I had no idea what I was doing—but I had a vision and a whole lot of heart. That tiny business, stitched together with love and a few clumsy seams, was the spark of something so much bigger.

What felt small and playful at the time was actually one of my first experiences of starting something from scratch—of dreaming something into reality. It didn’t matter that it wasn’t perfect. What mattered was that I started. And even now, after all the years and all the lessons, that truth hasn’t changed. We often think we need the whole picture to begin, but most of the time, God just asks us to take the first step with what’s in our hands.

I didn’t know back then how much that little moment would shape me, or how deeply it would root itself into who I am today. But God knew. And He rejoiced—not in the finished product, but in the willingness to begin.

Stepping Into Your Wild

We often glamorize the “big” moments—launching the business, writing the book, speaking on the stage—but most of those moments begin with something humble, small, and often hidden. If we’re not careful, we’ll overlook the power of starting, waiting instead for the perfect time, the right skillset, or more certainty. But faith doesn’t wait for ideal conditions. It moves anyway.

Think back to a time when you hesitated to begin something because it felt too small. Maybe it was a dream that didn’t seem “big enough” to matter, or a whisper from God that felt more like a nudge than a calling. The truth? That’s exactly where He works.

Zechariah 4:10 reminds us that God doesn’t just tolerate small beginnings—He rejoices in them. The act of starting is sacred. It’s not about arriving fully formed but about being willing to grow. We see this over and over in scripture—Moses stuttered, David was overlooked, Mary was young. Their beginnings weren’t impressive to the world, but God knew what was inside of them.

This is your permission slip to begin messy. To take the leap with shaky legs and a hopeful heart. That dream or idea on your heart? It doesn’t have to be fully baked to matter. What if you trusted that God is already smiling—not at your polished outcome—but at your courageous first step? You don’t need the blueprint for the entire journey to take one small, obedient move forward. The beginning might not feel glamorous, but it's the holy ground of becoming. And when you start with trust, you make space for God to show up in ways you couldn’t have imagined.

So friend, what’s your t-shirt pillow moment? What seed is God asking you to plant—right now, right here? Your willingness to begin might just be the start of something wildly beautiful.

Key Takeaway

Every story worth telling begins with a single step of obedience. God doesn’t need you to have it all figured out—He simply asks you to trust Him enough to start. Small beginnings are often the very place where God begins His greatest work.

Reflection Questions

  1. What is one small dream or nudge you've been ignoring because it doesn’t feel “big enough”?
  2. How can you shift your mindset to celebrate your starting point rather than compare it?
  3. Who has been a “Momo” in your life—someone who supported you in your small beginnings—and how can you honor or thank them today?

Prayer

God, thank You for delighting in our beginnings. Help me to stop waiting for perfection and instead trust the beauty of starting. Give me courage to take the first step—even if it feels uncertain—and remind me that You are cheering me on in every moment of growth. May I see my small beginnings not as insignificant, but as sacred ground where You are already at work. Amen.
