Embracing the Seasons of Life
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 reminds us that life unfolds in seasons, each bringing its own joys and challenges. Some seasons arrive gently, while others hit us with the force of a ton of bricks. Saying goodbye to loved ones is one of those painful moments.
Reflecting on the passing of my grandparents, I am reminded of their unwavering faith and the warmth they brought into our lives. Grandparents often share the best parts of their hearts with us. Mine were devoted to God, hard-working, and loving—truly beautiful inside and out. Now that I'm older, I realize I took for granted the small talk, the simplicity, and the peace that always filled their home.
What I wouldn't give to watch "Matlock" with Grandad again or to spend a tranquil afternoon fishing with Papaw. I'd love to hear Granny's stories once more or to join Mamaw in church as she praised Jesus in her unique, heartfelt way. Those cherished seasons have come to an end, and I find myself preparing for the next season and stepping into the role of a grandparent alongside my treasured wife, Shellye.
Our oldest daughter is preparing for marriage, and our youngest is off to college—how swiftly time passes. Let us embrace each season and hold close to the loved ones God has placed in our lives. They are His precious gifts to us during our journey on this earth.
