Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Daily Devotional

DAY 33 OF 365

Oneness We move from the self-existence of God to the oneness of God. What do we mean by oneness? The term "oneness" essentially refers to the fact that God is...well...one. His nature isn't shared with anyone or anything out there. He stands absolutely and utterly alone in His "God-ness." On this particular point the biblical record couldn't be any clearer. We see it declared in the historical annals of Deuteronomy and 2 Samuel: "Therefore You are great, O Lord GOD. For there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears (2 Samuel 7:22 NKJV). We see it in the poetic prose of the Psalms: For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God (Psalms 86:10 NKJV). We see it in the prophetic writings of Isaiah: I am the LORD, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me...from the rising of the sun to its setting...there is none besides Me. I am the LORD, and there is no other (Isaiah 45:5-6 NKJV). And we see it in the New Testament as Jesus refers to God as the only God: "How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?" (John 5:44 NKJV). Historically, humanity has always trended toward the notion of there being many gods wrestling things out in the heavens. Contrary to these many myths, the God of the Bible isn't engaged in any power struggles with any other gods, because there aren't any. He's it, and in our society, which is so spiritually deceived, that's an important truth for us to cling to. God stands absolutely and utterly alone in His "God-ness." He's "one-of-a-kind". What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
