Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Daily Devotional

DAY 37 OF 365

Omniscience How much is there to know? Think about it: If you were to roll up all of the knowledge in the entire universe into a ball, how big would it be? Now stop and consider how much of it we actually know. Would it be a slender sliver, a small spot, or perhaps a microscopic speck? Who knows? What we do know is that it would be next to nothing compared to what we don't know. But that's not the case with God. He knows absolutely all there is to know. He knows what's inside every person's heart (1 Kings 8:39). He knows each star by name (Psalm 147:4). He knows things that are beyond our ability to search out (Isaiah 55:8-9). He knows how every beast and bird operate (Job 38-39). And He knows everything that has ever happened and everything that ever will happen (Isaiah 46:10). If it's knowable, God knows it...perfectly. We call this perfect knowledge omniscience (omni meaning "all" and science meaning "knowledge"). God's omniscience has been the bedrock that's supported His people through the most difficult ordeals they've faced. Consider the Psalms for a moment. David wrote many of them when he was in the valley of persecution and desperation. And in so many of these Psalms, David consoles himself with the knowledge that God knows what He's going through (Psalm 31:7). Our lives ought to be like that. The omniscience of God shouldn't be some abstract theological concept to us, but rather a practical source of consolation as we go through things that don't make much sense. When we reach those points in life when we just don't know what's going on, it's good to know God does. God knows absolutely all there is to know. so we don't need to. What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
