The Word
We know that God has a will. We know that we can know and are called to know God's will. And we know that God's will is always going to be the right choice in life. But how does it all happen? How do we actually and practically get the will of God into our own hearts and minds?
There are a few different means by which God can make His will known to us. However, His primary way of communicating and conveying it to us is through His Word. The Bible, above all else, is how we are able to discern the Lord's will for our lives.
In Psalm 119:105, the Word of God is compared to a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. What a perfect portrayal of how the Bible reveals and illuminates God's will for us!
If you've ever found yourself in a room where the lights suddenly went out, or if you've ever gotten stranded outdoors once the sun went down, you know how helpless and desperate the darkness can render you. Without light, you become disoriented and directionless.
That's how people who don't know God's will live out their lives. They go about stumbling in the dark. They fumble their way through, running into things that leave them bruised and battered, uncertain and unsure of where to go or what to do next.
What's missing? The clarity of God's will for their lives to guide and direct them. And it's in His Word that His will is revealed. The Word becomes that proverbial lamp to their feet and light to their path as it takes what was once dark and disorienting and brings about a brilliant clarity...a clarity of the Lord's will.
We know that God has a will. We know that we can know and are called to know God's will. And we know that God's will is always going to be the right choice in life.
Think about it...
What does this passage reveal to me about God?
What does this passage reveal to me about myself?
Based on this, what changes do I need to make?
What is my prayer for today?
