DAY 190 OF 365

Make haste?

You can't miss the undeniable sense of urgency in this Psalm. "Make haste...Make haste to help me, O LORD!" David was definitely in a predicament that was time sensitive, and we can all relate to this in our own way. At one time or another, all of us have echoed David's cry to God, "Make haste!"

But in all reality, God doesn't "make haste" in the sense that we implore Him to. Making haste implies that God needs to make up for something. That He was being too slow before and now He has to compensate by ramping things up. That's not God.

God is always working out His perfect will according to His perfect timing. He doesn't fall behind or have to hurry ahead like we do. He's in complete control over all things, which prevents Him from ever having to be hasty. Simply put, He's always on time.

It may not seem like it from our vantage point, but that's because our timing is so out of sync with His. Abraham had to wait 100 years before receiving his son, Moses endured 40 years in the wilderness before he received God's commission, and it was at the end of a long lifetime that Simeon and Anna received the blessing of beholding the Messiah. We see these examples and can be easily tempted to question why God didn't speed things up.

From our side of eternity, we want things to happen a whole lot faster. We want God to make haste. But He won't, because His timing is always perfect, and He will never rush something ahead of its time because we want Him to do.

Lord, although it's hard for us to accept at times, we know that Your timing is always perfect. Please help us to be in sync with Your timeline.

God is always working out His perfect will according to His perfect timing. He doesn't fall behind or have to hurry ahead like we do. He's in complete control over all things, which prevents Him from ever having to be hasty. Simply put, He's always on time.

Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
