DAY 184 OF 365

Pivot point

Psalm 64 starts out as a lament over the ways of the wicked. It describes how the wicked scheme and conspire against the righteous. They take aim at the righteous from a distance and seemingly do whatever they want without any accountability or consequence. They get away with absolutely anything, and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Have you ever felt that way? Have you ever encountered a situation where an evil person is doing something to you or to the people you care about? Of course you have, because at some time or another, all of us find ourselves in the exact same situation Psalm 64 is describing.

Fortunately, there's a pivot point in this Psalm. It occurs in verse 7:

But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly they shall be wounded. (Psalms 64:7 NKJV)

Notice how the focus shifts from the wicked to the Lord. He's introduced as the great judge and arbiter who sees and does what nobody else can. Although the wicked think they're bulletproof and invulnerable, God stops them in their tracks and upholds justice.

When God is finally brought into the picture, it makes all the difference. And not just in this Psalm, but also in life. It's instinctual for us to be frustrated by those who persecute us and seem to get away with it. But we have to remember there's a righteous Judge who sees everything and will make sure justice is upheld.

Nobody gets away with anything. One way or another, one day or another, God is there and is going to make sure wicked works are punished. That's the pivot point that will pull us back from living in lament.

Mighty Judge of all who lives and breathes, thank you for the peace that comes from knowing Your righteousness will reign at the end of the day.

Although the wicked think they're bulletproof and invulnerable, God stops them in their tracks and upholds justice.

Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God?

What does this passage reveal to me about myself?

Based on this, what changes do I need to make?

What is my prayer for today?
