Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Daily Devotional

DAY 151 OF 365

Now do it! Most marital issues in the church aren't due to a shortage of counseling or biblical instruction. They're not the result of husbands and wives not knowing what they're supposed to do. No, quite honestly, most problems are due to a lack of application-not lack of information. Think about it: the Bible has been around for a while now. We've had the New Testament for nearly 2,000 years, and it hasn't changed in all that time. The point is that most of us know what God's Word has to say about marriage. We know that the two are one and that marriage is a reflection of God's nature and of our relationship with Christ. Husbands know they're to love their wives as Christ loves the Church, and wives know their role, as well Christian couples already know all these things, for the most part. So the question is, Why are so many Christian marriages hurting? It's not because the Word is insufficient or unreliable. A big part of the problem is that we simply don't do what it says. That's the danger in even doing a devotional like this one. We can nod our head in agreement when we read truth but never follow through with it in our actions. We run the risk of being hearers of the Word only, and not doers (James 1:22). Let's not make that mistake, not this month, not with something as important as this. In this day and age, a godly marriage speaks louder about Jesus and His presence in our lives than just about anything else. Let's allow His Spirit to turn up the volume by being doers of what we already know the Word says. Most marital issues in the church are due to a lack of application-not lack of information. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
