Gospel of John Student Devotional

DAY 25 OF 30

Do you ever feel like an outsider in this world? Maybe you feel uncomfortable or like you just don’t fit in. Well, it’s because you don’t. Now don’t take this the wrong way, but Jesus tells us that this world is not our home; and because this place isn’t our home, it's not uncommon for us to feel uncomfortable or out of place.

John 15:18 says, “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.” Jesus goes on to explain that the world may hate us because we are not of this world. You are called to be different from this world. You feel out of place because this world is not your home! You are called to something much greater than this place! Rejoice in this. God has such a high calling for you.

If you go on to read through John 16 Jesus talks about his departure and return to this earth. He tells us that he will be back in “a little while.” Although we don’t know how long this may be, God tells us that during the time Jesus is away, we will have sorrow and there will be pain and struggles. We should still rejoice because our joy will be full once Jesus comes back for us.

So, if you ever feel like you are an outsider, remember that this world is not our home, and the best is always yet to come… eternal life with Jesus is there for us, and it will only be a little while until Jesus comes back.
