Five Steps to Fruitful Networking

DAY 2 OF 5

Five Steps to Fruitful Networking: Part II

There’s an old saying that “You only get out of something what you’re willing to put in.” When it comes to networking, there are many groups we can join, but the best fruit typically comes from the second step to fruitful networking; Becoming Involved.

Networking groups, Rotary clubs, and other community-minded groups need leadership. Those who are willing to become involved typically get noticed.

When you become involved, the spotlight you receive leads to new business opportunities. By serving in a leadership role, you will become better known, and if you serve well, better trusted. 1 Timothy 3:13 teaches, “Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.”

Service gives you not only reason for networking but time to do so. Additionally, it can make the act of networking feel honest if you still struggle with the idea of networking. Assisting in the leadership of community-minded groups allows you to actively give back to the community as you attempt to network.

To leverage the time you spend networking, become involved in leadership. Even if the networking turns out to be unsuccessful you can rest easy knowing the time you spent still made a positive impact.

Questions For Reflection

  • What community leadership positions are available near you? What community groups exist in your area? What community groups could use some help?
  • How do you spend your time? Are you allotting enough time for business productivity? Do you take time for the Lord? Do you take time for rest?

About this Plan

Five Steps to Fruitful Networking

Networking may sound transactional and feel uncomfortable at first. Seeking out relationships for the purpose of getting clients or partners is not a common experience. However, networking is a potent tool to assist in business development. The more relationships you build the bigger community you create and, after all, business is little more than mechanized community.
