Conquering the Unknown: Trusting God in Life’s UncertaintiesSample

Finding Peace in the Unknown Unknowns
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Life has a way of blindsiding us. Some uncertainties we can plan for, but others, the ones we never see coming, shake us to the core. In those moments, fear threatens to take over. But even in the unknown, Jesus offers us His Unshakable Peace.
The disciples knew this fear all too well. One night, caught in a raging storm, they panicked as the waves crashed around them, while Jesus slept in the boat. Overcome by terror, they woke Him, questioning if He even cared. Jesus calmed the storm with a single word, then asked them, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”. It wasn’t just a rebuke but an invitation to trust, not in the absence of storms, but in His Presence through them.
I found myself in a storm I never saw coming when my younger son fell ill. It started as something minor, chickenpox, passed on by a friend. His older brother caught it, too, but recovered within two weeks. We thought nothing of it. But my younger son’s fever lingered. At first, we assumed it was a stubborn aftereffect of the virus. Then, his condition worsened.
By the time we admitted him to the hospital, everything unraveled. The diagnosis was Leukemia. His white blood cell count was alarmingly high. In an instant, our world shifted. Every day became an unknown, a battle between fear and faith, desperate prayers and devastating reality. We didn’t know what the next day, the next hour, or even the next moment would bring.
God remained through the long hospital nights, the pain, and the loss that we never could have prepared for. We didn’t always feel Him. We didn’t understand His Plan. But somehow, He gave us enough strength for each day. He carried us through the heartbreak, whispering Peace even when nothing made sense.
Life’s uncertainties are inevitable. Some will challenge us, and others may leave us feeling broken. Yet none are greater than the One who sustains us through them. The storms may rage, but Jesus remains in the boat with us, which makes all the difference.
Pause and Ponder:
- How do you react when life throws you into an unexpected storm?
- How can you cultivate peace in uncertain times?
Prayer: Jesus, when life is unpredictable, remind me that You are my Peace. Help me to trust that You are in control, no matter what comes my way. Amen.
