F.L.O.W: Getting Unstuck Through the Power of Surrender a 5-Day Devotional by Dr. Avril Occilien-SimilienSample

FLOW in Faith
“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” – Luke 1:45 (NIV)
Have you ever felt unqualified for something God placed on your heart? Maybe you have sensed a calling to start a ministry, write a book, or step into a new role at work—and thought, “This is too big for me.” Do the dreams or promises He has given you seem impossible? If so, you’re not alone. I have felt the same way as God has challenged my faith and called me out of my comfort zone. In these moments, the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus, has been a source of encouragement and inspiration.
Mary’s story begins ordinarily. She was young, unmarried, and going about her life when an angel appeared, calling her “highly favored” and announcing that she would give birth to the Messiah. Naturally, Mary had questions: “How can this be?” The angel’s answer was simple: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you” (Luke 1:35).
But here’s the thing—Mary did not check all the proverbial boxes. She was not wealthy or well-known. By the world’s standards, she was not the obvious choice to carry out the monumental task of birthing the Messiah into the world. But thankfully, God does not see things as we see them. He did not choose Mary because of her status or connections; He chose her because of her heart. She was known and seen by God, and that is all that mattered.
Maybe you are like Mary. Perhaps God has spoken something over your life that seems impossible, and you feel stuck. You might think, “I’m not ready, I’m not qualified, I’m too young, too old, or I don’t have the resources.” It is easy to let doubt take over when we focus on our limitations. But remember what the angel said: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you.” It’s not about your strength but God’s power working through you. The same Spirit that empowered Mary empowers you.
As you walk this faith journey, remember you rely on His strength, not your own. You do not need to have it all figured out. God isn’t asking for your qualifications—He’s asking for your faith.
Today, I encourage you to do what Mary did—flow in faith. Don’t get stuck in doubt or fear. Be confident in God's promises. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” If God said it, trust Him to fulfill it. Let go of doubt, stand on His promises, and let your faith flow.
Reflect and Journal:
- What are you believing God for? What vision or dream has God placed on your heart?
- What thoughts or beliefs are causing you to doubt what God has promised? Write them down.
Pray:
Lord, I thank You for Your calling on my life and the promises You have spoken over me. Help me to flow in faith as I release all doubt and fear into Your hands. In Jesus’ name…Amen!
