Isaiah 29 begins a series of judgments (woes) against the Egyptian alliance, Assyria, and the nations. This is followed by a narrative portion covering Judah's deliverance from the Assyrian threat, Hezekiah’s deliverance from sickness, and his foolish display of material wealth to the Babylonian envoys. Chapter 40 launches into a major thematic transition from prophecies of judgment to ones of hope and comfort.
