Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me (Revelation 3:20).
Have you invited Jesus to fellowship with you?
In approximately AD 60 the inhabitants of Laodicea experienced a severe earthquake. When the government offered to rebuild their city, the affluent citizens declined their assistance. Unfortunately, the saints in the city adopt a similar self-sufficient mindset and need Jesus' correction. The believers become like the hot water piped in from Hierapolis that turns lukewarm when it reaches its destination. As a result, the Lord threatens to "vomit you out of My mouth" (Revelation 3:16). These lukewarm saints are financially rich but spiritually bankrupt. Jesus’ assessment is "you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked" (Revelation 3:17). Since Jesus loves them, He rebukes them and calls them to repentance and a restoration of fellowship.
Employment Point: Repent of self-sufficiency and enjoy fellowship with Jesus.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
