Day 4: Sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing
I remember it distinctly. We were out camping with friends. We’d sat around a fire, chatting the night away. As we headed back to our campsite, we realised we were underneath the most incredible blanket of stars in the sky. It was breathtaking to look up, away from the city lights, and just see thousands of stars looking back at us.
God’s creation is powerful. Genesis states that on day four of God’s intentional creation, He made the sun, the moon and the stars. As observers of these astronomical marvels, we can see that He didn’t just create a moon and a gazillion balls of hot gas, one closer to earth than the rest. Sure, they may be the objects of creation, but what He actually gave us was a way to see Him, even when we don’t know Him.
On this day, sunrises and sunsets were birthed. Those glorious times of day when the sky becomes so magnificent it can sometimes take your breath away.
And on this day, the peace of a blanket of stars emerged. After a hard day, lying on the grass, looking up at a twinkling, darkened sky, we somehow realise how small we are, finding comfort and bringing perspective to our hurts and struggles.
What God created on day four wasn’t just the sun, the moon and the stars. It is an everlasting invitation to all people everywhere to discover the artist who brings us sunrises, sunsets and stargazing.

About this Plan

The Creation story is an incredible account of God speaking everything into existence. We can look at the oceans or the animals and take them at face value, or we can take joy in the invitations behind them – to drink of the Water that will never run dry, or to take heart, we are more valued than the birds!
