Daily Direction Reading Plan

DAY 359 OF 365

A widow in Brazil desperately needed food for her children. She prayed for two hours, and God told her to go to the supermarket, fill up her carts, and check out through line #7. She filled three carts, went to line #7 just as the checker was leaving for lunch. She waited an hour until he came back. Suddenly she heard over the speaker that to celebrate their 7th year, the person in checkout line #7 would get all their groceries free. Now God does not always answer our prayers this way. God used a different method to supply the needs of the Apostle Paul. He often built tents to earn money for his support. But at times God moved believers to send him money. We read in his letter to the church at Philippi that He was writing to thank them for their generosity. He calls their donations for his support a sweet-smelling sacrifice that pleases God. He also regarded their contribution as an investment in God’s work. As an investment, they could expect dividends at the proper time. When God’s people give of their time, talents, and money for the cause of Christ, they are, in fact, making an investment. What we invest in Christ’s kingdom today continues to work in future generations. This can happen because people who come to Christ today will transmit God’s message to the next generation. So what we invest for Christ today will keep working until Christ returns.
