In the Garden With Jesus - a Lent Journey for TeensSample

Stand up and pray
In Mark 6:31, Jesus invites all who follow Him to find a quiet place and to pray.
The disciples watched Jesus closely and out of everything they could have asked Him to teach them, they asked Him to teach them how to pray. They could have asked him how to preach, how to heal the sick, how to have 12 close friends…
Instead, they asked him to teach them about prayer. They realised that if they wanted to live the life Jesus lived, they needed prayer just like He did.
Prayer is not a gift that only the “cool” kids get, prayer is something that we learn to do.
Jesus was not all talk and no show… He taught nothing that He did not do himself.
He talks with His Father, He asks for His Father’s will and not His own during prayer. He takes refuge in His Father during times of uncertainty, when dark times are getting closer and closer.
We have all experienced such times, and what is our response? Where do we find our comfort? Where do you find your refuge?
Jesus invites us, through His life, to turn to the Father in prayer and share our dark moments with Him. Just as He did.
Exercise:
Become aware of how you really feel about prayer- no pretense, just be real.
Prayer:
God, I ask for a deep awareness of Your love for me and Your work in me.

About this Plan

You are invited to a Lent journey where we will spend 40 days with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane - the place where He was extremely vulnerable and open to the Father’s will. Here, He shows us a glimpse of His courage to wrestle with His humanity.
