Remembering God’s Provision
Genesis chapter 22 tells the story of God instructing Abraham to go up to the mountain and sacrifice his only son, Isaac, to God. Abraham responds with immediate obedience, which honestly feels so strange to me. He trusts God completely and starts climbing up the mountain with his son. When his son asks him, “Father, we have the fire and the wood for the sacrifice, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”Abraham replies, “God Himself will provide the Lamb for the offering.” Abraham’s confidence in God’s provision is something I can’t get over. He was so sure that Jehovah Jireh would provide for Him that He was willing to accept to do the unimaginable – sacrificing his son!
Of course, God does come through powerfully and provides a lamb for the sacrifice, and Abraham names that place of sacrifice, “the Lord will provide.” What a story! I feel like when there’s a lack of an acute need in my life, I don’t display such faith in God’s provision – not by a mile! Let’s repent of not having faith in God’s provision, and let’s thank Him today for showing up every time we didn’t even think He would.
God is a provider – He is a Father and desires to take care of us. Let’s thank Him for this aspect of His nature today and put our whole trust in His ability to provide for us.
