Greater Journey

DAY 1 OF 12

GREATER POTENTIAL

READY
“Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

SET
Most of us at some point in our lives have written a curriculum vitae or resume. It is usually an opportunity to share our credentials, expertise, and talents with other professionals in the world. Your resume represents your potential to be successful in your profession, but only God knows the true potential He gave to each of us. Your true potential is who God designed you to be, intertwined with His purpose and destiny for you.

Have you heard your bosses or your child’s teachers say “You have the potential to do better!”? Well, the truth is that you always have the potential to be better. We are all a work in progress! Our end goal is to be Christ-like, holy, godly, and become the people God created us to be. There is greater potential in all of us, waiting to be realized and utilized to its fullest.

Let’s look at the lives of David, Esther, and Joseph.

Little did the young shepherd boy David know that he had the potential to one day play the harp for Saul to drive away the evil spirits, to fight and defeat the giant Goliath, to protect the Israelites from the Philistines, and to become the King of Israel. God prepared David to become a skillful musician when he learned to play the harp while tending the flock. God prepared David to kill bears and lions with his bare hands to protect his family’s herd of sheep. God knew the potential He placed in David and prepared a training ground for him so that one day he would be able to rule over Israel.

Little did the exiled Israelite woman (with her Jewish background) Esther know that she had the potential to one day become the Queen, to save Israel from annihilation, and to enforce a decree written to protect all Jews. God prepared Esther as she went through an orphan’s life, enduring all the pain and hardship, yet carrying a right attitude and staying obedient to Mordecai. God prepared Esther by giving her favor, beauty, and courage. God knew the potential He placed in Esther and prepared a training ground for her so that one day, her story would be written, remembered, and used to encourage many others.

Little did the most loved son of Jacob called Joseph know that he had the potential to one day interpret the dreams of prisoners and Pharaoh and to be promoted to be the Chief Administrator of Egypt. God prepared Joseph through numerous adversities that all turned into Heavenly opportunities to fulfill his God-given potential and destiny. Joseph trusted God. God knew the potential He placed in Joseph and His Presence abided with him, enabling him to find favor with man wherever he went.

Who are you in Christ? While man looks outward, the Lord looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7) and there is something much greater seeded in you that the world needs to see and experience. Who sees the potential in you, the treasures that are found in jars of clay? Our Creator, Father, and Savior God is the only One who KNOWS the true potential He has placed in us.

Your greater potential is found in Christ and that is incomparable to any worldly promises, victories, or failures.

GO

  • How have you been maximizing your potential in this season of your life in the Kingdom of God?
  • What are some areas of your life where you know there is potential in doing more for God?
  • Remember the lives of David, Esther, and Joseph. Reflect and allow God to speak to you about the circumstances you are in right now in relation to the potential that He has placed in you.
